A day out by the lake

There’s something about getting out of the city and into nature that always clears my head, so we took a little trip just outside Berlin to a quiet lake with Cooper for an afternoon shoot. The Retropia repurposed disposable film camera lens gave the photos that soft, nostalgic feel with subtle vignetting and light leaks, which made the whole day feel even more special.

Why the Retropia lens is worth it

What I love most about the Retropia lens is that it makes everyday moments feel a little more meaningful. By repurposing disposable film camera optics, it gives digital photos that soft, imperfect, nostalgic feel that feels especially right when you are outdoors, away from the noise of the city. It is lightweight, easy to bring along, and perfect for those spontaneous walks, lake days, and travel moments where you want your photos to feel less polished and more like a memory.

How we shot by the lake

  • We shot on a mix of sunny and cloudy weather, which gave the photos a softer and more natural look.

  • We let the Retropia lens do its thing, so the small focus shifts and light leaks became part of the style.

  • We shot wider for the landscape shots and tighter for portraits to bring out the lens’s soft edges and gentle vignette.

Retropia Lens, Filter, and Flash

If you’re curious about the main Retropia products, we only used the lens on this shoot, but the filter and flash are great additions to the setup as well:

  • Lens: The core Retropia product, made to give your photos a soft, nostalgic, film-like look.

  • Lens filter: A simple add-on that helps refine the look and adds a little extra character to each shot.

  • Flash: A compact flash that brings in more light when the scene gets darker or needs a stronger pop.
